My Little Black Car named Jack Bowers

This is the beauty in which I live. The photo was taken from across the street from my apartment, at my friend, Ryan's house. In the mornings, I run in this area because of all the unpaved trails farmers use.

The name was given by Al, my predecessor, and I think it fits rather nicely. Although I'm not a follower of 24, people in Japan are... so a little exploitation of pop culture may go a long way.

Let me just say I don't have too much to write about this little thing. It's a Honda, Today. It legally only sits 4 people. When parked next to a normal size car, uh, like a Toyota Prius, it looks like a Power Wheels machine. I often feel like going up hills might explode the engine, but that has yet to happen. I might by myself be able to lift my car (j/k), and no doubt I will have to anchor it during typhoon season.

Because I'm in Japan, I must drive on the other side of the road, on the other side of the car. This looks like a complete mirror image of how we drive in the states. Therefore, it's pretty intuitive, and not at all scary. However, I also live in the country, so the roads are a tad bigger than normal. One funny thing is that when driving, I usually turn off the air and open the windows so that my right arm can hang outside the door. Otherwise, I'm technically too broad for the vehicle, that's my opinion, at least.

Just to give you a point of reference

No room for junk in this trunk!

To fill up a tank, it costs me 2,600\, or almost 30 dollars. We buy gas hear by the liter. It takes about 21~23 liters for me to fill up. I still am not grasping the size of Kyushu, so I don't know how far it is to many of the places on the other side of the island. However, I did learn that it might take me 2~3 hours to get to Fukuoka Int'l Airport (for everyone who's gonna come out to visit... yes, all of you.... please I had this dream last night that I somehow ended up staying for 8 years... Ania and Jay ended up having 5 kids, my dad somehow ended up having more children... and Momo was and old, old lady by that time... it was definitely in the nightmare category).

So if you have any car questions, feel free to ask, and I'll post the answers here.

  1. Hey Nicole, Jack looks awesome and still has the gas pedal on the right side. The hills and greenery look really nice.

Yes, the pedals are in the same location, so they are the only thing not mirror imaged over. THANK GOD!!! That would be a disaster!
